How to Store Your Fine Diamond Jewelry
How to Store Your Fine Diamond Jewelry
If you’re one of those people who dump all their jewelry into a small box and later wonders why the clasps may be broken, or the chains entangled, you’ll want to pay close attention on how to change your ways to get your jewelry to last longer. Whether the jewelry designs are delicate vintage pieces or modern day diamond faced watches, taking just a little extra care on storing can help to make the enjoyment of all your jewelry last for potentially a lifetime. A jewelry box is not a must, although it can help to store separate pieces and keep them from getting damaged, but even having small velvet or felt pouches or the original case is a good way to keep things organized.
Moisture Is Your Enemy
Whether it is a gold chain or a fine diamond watch, moisture is your enemy. Any cracks in the watch face can get in and ruin the mechanisms. Any moisture left on the clasps can cause them to eventually loosen. If you clean your jewelry first, be sure it is dry before you store it. You will want to use a nice quality cloth to keep lint or particles from getting into the crevices of finely detailed designs. However, it should be absorbent enough to get the jewelry dry and clean. Once you are satisfied it is dry, you are ready to store it.
Keep Away From Light and Air
Air and light can oxidize silver. Air can also move dust and particles onto your just cleaned items. To store jewelry properly, have a place for each individual piece where it can be retrieved the next time you decide to wear it, in the same condition your stored it. Keep your chains separate, so they don’t get tangled up with each other. Rings should have their own pouches or not be placed next to other rings that can be scratched when it is retrieved from the jewelry box. Once everything is in its own place and you have a set way to clean and store your jewelry, you will find opening your jewelry box a delightful experience from here on out.
